When you say this my take is that you have an idea and also the technology you are looking for is there but not yet in the best of its forms or is pre mature as of now.

In my view, in most of the scenarios the same work could be done using alternate technology or if the current technology is path breaking whose alternate is not there (very less chance) then you can go ahead if have a strong belief on your idea. Get some patents done on the idea, implementation etc so that you also evolve as the technology and the patents will help you in getting the fruits later.

If the alternate technology is there go ahead use that and complete the product. You can make the development scalable and flexible enough to even adopt the new technology you are talking about once it ripe.

At any point of time you always have a lot of options to choose from in terms of both product and technology. It’s more about your firmness in the belief for the product idea, how good the market reseach has gone and how good your business, revenue and growth plans are.

Somebody said “Don’t doubt on your beliefs and dont believe your doubts” This might be helpful to you if you are into a similar situation…

Hmm… first of all, are you thinking what all I am finding on a recruitment consultants blog? I am using this space not only for job postings, recruitment insights but for putting my views towards some general business problems or topics.

Today let’s look into what is winning technology and what is best technology along with looking into the question whether both would necessarily be the same or not.

A Winning Technolgy could be defined in several ways e.g getting more customer base, getting more revenue (may be with less user base) or providing an innovative solution for a business problem i.e. it is always context dependent.

Best technology generally refers more towards innovative solutions, some times using complex algorithms to provide a solution or in plain terms using present best techniques.

The different lies in hitting the bulls eye. Does the technology able to align with people mindset or able to attract the same. Is it not hitting the product or just surrounding it i.e. are your customers really finding the product they are looking for directly.

One example I would like to give here, though the name is biggie, is Google’s home page. Before it came to arena, the era of imagy, Flashy websites and website with too much of information (sometimes distraction for customer) was present. What it did was to come up with a plain home on white backgroud providing just the product (search box) in front of user and see what has happend today with other competitors and lots of websites who have moved or are moving towards getting the website simple.

Here putting up a simple website was not the best technology you can say but was\is the winning one for sure. Getting into shoes of your customer becomes critical requirement for your product hence. A product which is thought from the perspective of customers and catching their pulse then it would be the winning. Best technology could be subset of winning technology.

You can use Social and Professional network websites for recruitment business too and both helps.

Social networking sites helps you in getting in touch with your old friends, mates, partners which helps in having good number of direct contacts as well as it could help you towards introduction to 3rd level of people\business contacts. The contacts you get here could be of much use as they mostly would be in contact with your friends and hence it becomes easy to start a conversion with due reference. Some examples are facebook, orkut, myspace etc.

Professional network helps in getting in touch with people in similar profession, target audience or customers and increasing business contacts. This works by putting you directly in the market and then you have to find ways by being among client and competitors. This helps you in establishing a brand too among the competitors by getting good traffic to your page, getting more contracts and contacts.Some examples are linkedin, konnects, siliconindia etc.

The base line about Recruitment business is contacts which helps you in getting contracts and also “right” fit for an opening.

My wishlist for a jobsite would include the following from different perspective:

1) Job Seeker:

     – Auto suggest jobs depending upon my resume so that as soon as I log into the job website I should be able to find relevant jobs.

     - Help resources, guide links for preparing resumes, interviews etc again by default I should be able to see relevant resources according to my skill set and area of interest for jobs.

     - Hot jobs, jobs near my location

     - Provide some other ways too to represent my Resume and my self in different way that just the convention Resume. I should be able to present my blog strength as just one feature along with some more. This will help me in presenting myself in my own way.

 2) Job Provider:

      – Job posting, search resume based on skills, projects, experience etc

      - Should be able to find list of service providers near the job location etc. This helps companies in choosing the consultants and helps the consultants in finding the nearby jobs opening and companies to look for.

I think if we work on the lines of auto-matching and using some of the present recruitment strategies which are there in companies and take them online then that would help you in creating useful and productive job website.

All of us are searching and trying to set our identity and hence this should be one of the key factors while designing a job website too.

1) In case you want to send your resume to multiple recepients, not from the same company or consultancy, then put them using BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) and NOT all in To or CC line. Using BCC all the recepients would get the email individually and would not be able to see who all were included by you.

2) It’s good that you prepare an email template, but use it intelligently. As far as possible make them fit into the current job opening context else the person on the other side knows that its a generic message.

3) It’s good that you put a cover note about your self in the email briefing yourself and how you would fit into the role, highlighting your achievements and present job contributions.

4) Try to be realistic but should always posses the “Always ready to learn” attitude when ever you are presenting your self for a job opportunity.

Now coming to some good tips about resume from our perspective:

1) Resume should be small (Try to get it fit in 2 pages, should go at max to 3), to the point but explantory (i.e. put all the relevant information about the job responsibilities but use bullets so that you end up give just the right information), highlighting your personality and skills.

2) Give a lot of emphasis on you Skills but do not just put a lot of thing there. Put all the technical skills you have and also which are relevant to the opportunities you are looking for (though you should be possesing those). These acts as search criteria for a lot of recruiters towards primary or secondary selection mode.

3) Professional Exp: Put the most recent on at the top. Try to give you total exp there, duration, Role, Client (if disclosable) and then a 2 line about the project followed by your contribution, role and responsibility in the project. At the end of it highlight any achievements, appraisal you got for your work on this project.

4) Always put an Awards and Achievement section to provide more information including your college time, during job, any off job achievements there. This serves as a place to give a good impression about yourself to the reviewer.

5) Do not forget to put interests section which should contain your domain of interest as an example surfing financial site, following google trends for stock market in india, reading fiction novels, organizing tech talk events etc.

you would need to remember one thing what would be your impression if you get such a resume for current job opening. Be yourself but at the same time put things intelligently in your resume so that a Recruiter looking at your resume for a particular opening find relevant information, skills from you matching the job.
